Life is synonymous with vitality, and we draw this vitality from the nature surrounding us. Nature holds the profound power to create happiness within us, serving as a sanctuary of healing that nourishes both our minds and souls. When the pressures, responsibilities, and tensions of daily life wear us down, spending quality time in the lap of nature can lay its hands of healing quietness upon us, allowing the stress to melt away.
We all recognize the impact nature has on our well-being, but did you know that the world loses about 10 million hectares of forest each year? This is not just a loss of forest area; it is a profound loss for humanity and its well-being.
This year’s World Environment Day theme emphasizes land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. It’s a call to action for us all to reflect on how we can positively contribute to a healthy environment. Managed farmlands play a crucial role in this effort, and Hosachiguru is committed to protecting and expanding green spaces around us.
Restoring The Land: Breathing Life Back Into The Land
It’s a universal dream to own a piece of land and build a home—a sweet place we can call our own. But what’s the point of fulfilling this dream if we don’t have a tolerable planet to put it on?
At Hosachiguru, we understand the delicate balance between meeting human needs and maintaining the health of our planet. Our mission is to restore what has been lost and preserve as much farmland as possible. Through our regenerative practices, we apply the right techniques to ensure these lands thrive sustainably. This not only helps mitigate climate change but also creates more green spaces, contributing to a sustainable future for us all.
A commendable example of our efforts can be seen in the transformation of Hosachiguru’s Sambrahma Farms. In 2022, what once seemed like a deserted and barren piece of land was revitalized through the diligent application of regenerative farming practices. Within a year, this once desolate area was transformed into a lush, green haven.
Small Acts, Big Impact: A Path to Environmental Harmony
If we pause and take a moment, we will realize that nature around us has so much to offer. The soil sustains the earth, the plantations provide us with food, water nourishes all life, and the air keeps us alive. When all these elements work together, they create a paradise for us humans right here on Earth.
However, today we are constantly surrounded by climate changes such as heatwaves, hurricanes, and heavy precipitation events, which are largely a result of human activities.
You might wonder how adopting a sustainable lifestyle on your own could make a difference on such a huge planet. Well, consider this: if you switch from driving to walking for short distances, you can reduce your personal carbon footprint by up to 0.5 tons of CO2 per year. Moreover, using reusable shopping bags can save approximately 700 plastic bags annually.
Now imagine if everyone began to take such conscious, sustainable steps in their daily lives. The cumulative impact would be monumental, significantly reducing our environmental footprint and fostering a healthier planet. Small actions, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.
Nurturing The Planet: Hosachiguru’s Environmental Stewardship
Inspired by Jane Goodall’s words, “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make,” Hosachiguru is dedicated to sustainable practices. Acknowledging our dependence on the Earth, we focus on restoring soil health and implementing effective water management to sustain ecosystems, even in drought conditions. Our mission is to create a lasting, positive impact on the environment by ensuring soil fertility and efficient water use, securing a healthy planet for future generations.
At Hosachiguru, our regenerative practices, include planting trees, covering soil with mulch, applying natural fertilizers like jeevamrutam (a mix of cow dung, cow urine, jaggery, pulse flour), and a handful of forest soil composting organic waste, collecting rainwater, digging swales and trenches for water management, practicing no-till farming, and adding biochar to the soil. These practices enable us to increase soil carbon content, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change, and conserve water.
We take immense pride in knowing our efforts align with our mission for a greener tomorrow. Today, we successfully manage over 1,500 green acres and have sequestered 60,000 tonnes of carbon. In 2023 alone, we harvested an impressive 56 crore liters of water.
This World Environment Day, we are committed to making eco-conscious choices that benefit both the environment and our community. Remember, it all starts with one person. Your step towards sustainable choices today lays the foundation for a greener future for generations to come. Together, our collective actions can create a lasting positive impact on the planet.
